Community Engagement

First Bank is committed to social and economic development of our local areas. At the core, our efforts are focused on making generational and transformative impacts to enhance the quality of life for residents across our New Jersey and Pennsylvania communities. We work closely with our community partners to continually assess their needs, offering grants and funding to help them with their economic and social initiatives. First Bank’s goal is to meet the credit needs of the communities the Bank serves, including low and moderate-income neighborhoods. Since early 2021, we have loaned $416,814 to affordable housing, economic development, community services, and Revitalization projects. In 2021 we also grew our local community by issuing 947 small business loans, totaling $151,953,000. We offer programs such as: Community Checking Account Program, Fifty First senior checking accounts, and the Everfi Program, which teaches financial literacy for students K-12.

Community Program Highlights
Habitat for Humanity supports hard-working, low-to-middle income individuals and families that face challenges and obstacles to homeownership and accessing affordable housing. For 10 years First Bank has donated funds and hundreds of volunteer hours to build affordable housing and community revitalization projects.

HomeFront works to break the cycle of poverty and end homelessness in Central New Jersey, serving thousands of Mercer County families. It also operates Camp Mercer, a day camp for children ages 5-14 to learn life skills while having fun. First Bank is a proud sponsor of this vital organization, and hosts a financial literacy day at the camp.

First Bank has partnered with Everfi, a company that offers teachers and students virtual courses on life skills topics such as financial capabilities, diversity and inclusion, career leadership and success, STEM, and health and wellness. 817 students participated in 1,417 hours of learning with our free digital financial literacy courses.

Banking for All

Our Community Checking Account program was certified by the Nation Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund (CFE Fund) as meeting the BankOn National Account Standards 2021-2022. The goal of BankOn is to ensure that everyone has access to safe and affordable financial products and services.

“Community Checking offers New Jersey & Pennsylvania residents who are looking to improve their finances a safe, affordable, and truly useful mainstream banking product– this is especially important during COVID-19, as consumers need to access and manage their money both affordably and safely. First Bank’s offering of this terrific account brings them into the forefront of national banking access efforts, and we thank them.”  -Jonathan Mintz, President and CEO of the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund.
